Original Question: unable to detect my devices in the pc tool and sometimes displaying as “unknown devices”. by NagarjunaG
I installed the AD6LoWPAN EDKv1.0 package, and I am able to evaluate the demo, but after few times I observed that the ADWSN-UI tool is unable to detect my devices. Sometimes these are shown as “unknown devices”. What could be the problem, can you explain more on this?

This could happen for multiple reasons – like the device drivers are not installed properly or USB/UART issues on the PC used for this evaluation demonstration.
Please go through the following list to make sure you have the correct setup from the beginning:
- Check the drivers for the USB-SWD/UART-EMUZ board are installed properly for the PC to detect the hardware.
- The drivers for USB-SWD/UART-EMUZ boards are available in the CD/USB stick that comes with the kit or can be downloaded from the links provided in the “AD6LoWPAN-All-in-One-GettingStartedGuide” document. (“Things to Acquire before Starting” section). Install these drivers and reconnect the board. Make sure the USB is detected (by checking the device with PC device manager).
- Make sure the node is not connected to any other tools (teraterm or any other serial communication tool).
- Check the UART status section in Monitor and Control window if it show any of the following errors please restart the ADWSN_UI tool.
- UART_ERR_OPEN
- UART_ERR_WRITE
- UART_PACKET_LOST
Devices may be detected as “unknown devices” due to UART communication error also. Click “Find Devices” again or power cycle/reset the boards (that are connected to the ADWSN-UI-Tool) and try again.
