I am trying to change which Tx chains are enabled after device initialisation using ARM control mode. I am on a custom board which does not have the TX1_ENABLE or TX_2ENABLE
Is it possible to initialise the device with both TX1 and TX2 enabled and then, sometime later, disable TX2 using ARM control mode without reinitialising the device?

Your understanding is correct. It is not possible to switch on/off the TX/RX paths after radion On as mentioned in that post.
And is it also not possible to move to move from radio on to radio off, switch on/off a Tx channel (by modifying the "device → tx → txChannels" in the device parameters), and then move to radio on and expect the device to respect the new Tx channels enabled setting?
No, it is not possible to do that. When you enable or disable the TX path using the API, you have to go through the full init sequence before going to radioon so that the changes take effect. You can call API init_txsettings after radiooff and then use MYKONOS_initialize API and then go to radio on.
