AD9371 ORX path: RF to IF conversion

Category: Hardware

Hi,

Can AD9371 ORx be used to generate a IF signal instead of baseband signal. For example feed ORX path with 1850MHz signal and configure SN_LO frequency to 1845MHz. Will I being getting the signal at 5MHz IF instead of 0MHz.

Thanks and Regards

Yes, you can generate a IF signal using ORx but there are certain limitations of using ORx as Rx path. You can refer those limitations in the following link  Purpose of "Observation Receiver"

  • Thanks   for the response.

I am planning to use ORx path for DPD feedback only not as a separate receiver. Instead of providing DPD IP with baseband data, I am thinking of providing data at IF. For achieving that, just providing required offset in SN_LO frequency is sufficient or any other changes are needed?

Yes you can configure the sniffer LO, so that the ORX output can give an IF frequency. No need of doing any other settings for that.

But, for configuring DPD, you need to configure ORX with TXLO, and the data at the ORX output will be at baseband frequency. TX to ORX external connection should be there for running DPD. Refer to the "DPD, CLGC, AND VSWR MEASUREMENT" section in UG

  • Hi

I am using AD9371 not AD9375. DPD IP is inside FPGA. So for ORX I can configure sniffer LO and for TX TX LO so that ORX can give an IF frequency.

I was checking UG992 regarding IF in ORx path. I came across Real IF block in ORx path. It says

Can you please let me know the difference between the following

    1. Enabling Real IF block in ORX path

    2. Using SN_LO for ORX and then configuring SN_LO with a required offset from TX frequency (actual Tx frequency- desired IF).

Also when Real IF block is enabled which consists of mixer to convert complex baseband to real IF, how do we specify the required IF frequency and how do you configure the real IF filter

    Thanks
