Probably the single biggest barrier are security and privacy issues. End user consumers may be less sensitive to this than businesses. Over the past few years there have been many high profile examples of devices being hacked. Another area that needs to be addressed are ease of use development and deployment capabilities. Also, managing data, sifting through large amounts of data in the cloud for useful insights can be a daunting challenge. This is one of the reasons that we advocate for more intelligent processing in edge devices. These can be more optimized for the problems at hand and significantly reduce the amount of data being sent to the cloud.
