As is often the case the defense sector can be a leader in rolling out new technologies. I believe that there are many instances where IoT has already been implemented in defense applications. Some examples include blue force tracking systems. Other projects such as Land Warrior and Future Warrior. In general, the (US ) military cares a lot about situational and battle space awareness and has invested heavily in technologies to enable this for decades. Base security and remote monitoring is another area for defense focus. The Igloo White program from the Vietnam war era could be considered a very early ( and not entirely successful ) example of an IoT application.
