5/19/16: Fundamentals of Operational Amplifiers

What is the biggest feature for op amps in the future? Is it noise offset?

  • For most new applications, the key performance factors for op amps will be noise and low power/low supply.  Although offset voltage is an important parameter, almost all new op amps now have offset voltages in the low-microvolt range.  The newest design techniques and process technologies continue to improve on offset.  But the newest requirements for IoT, low power instrumentation, and the like, use smaller power supplies, meaning smaller signals, so maintaining good dynamic range means the noise must also be kept low.
