What are the trade offs between integrated and discrete active bias controller circuit?
What are the trade offs between integrated and discrete active bias controller circuit?
I would say that integrated active bias control circuits have more bells and whistles. So a device like HMC980 has alarm functions to detect over and under current and the ability to set limits on the negative gate voltage range. By contrast, with a discrete device you have to design all of those functions into your circuit. But you do have the advantage that discrete designs will probably be cheaper. But that may come at the cost of more pcb real estate.
