REGARDING NON-LINEAR SIMULATION OF LNA FROM ADI USING Keysight ADS

As pointed out in the webinar I was trying to perform Simulation of LNA, HMC374/ 374E using ADS. I would like to get clarified on how to perform two-tone simulation using the Amp2 model in ADS. I have observed that on performing two-tone simulation, the "GainCompressionFrequency" in Amp2 model takes a single frequency and hence Gain Compression is observed on only that frequency. So while performing an n-tone simulation, the gain compression is happening only at a single frequency which is entered in "Gain Compression Frequency" column, and the other frequencies are not taken into account. So, I would like to get clarified on how to perform two tone simulation in ADS using the Amp2 model after importing the non-linear data of the LNA from Genesys.

  • Hi Anu,

The Gain Compression Frequency you mention does not require a value and you should see frequency dependent compression and IMD3 variation pulled from the  P1dB and IP3 DAC data, and should observe output result that nearly matches datasheet.  You could also add the Freq_In variable to the GainCompFreq parameter field if more comfortable (as shown below), but doesn’t seem to influence result at all.

  • Hi Jim,

Please find the attached schematics and results for HMC374/ 374E. As I have mentioned, when GainCompFreq is left blank, I could not observe Gain Compression happening. Only when I enter that particular input tone frequency, I could see the Gain Compression. Please help me with the same.

    A) Schematics-When Gain Compression Frequency is left blank

    B) Gain and Output Power Plot-When Gain Compression Frequency is left blank

    C) Schematics-When Gain Compression Frequency is set as 900 MHz (Input Tone Frequency)

    D) Gain and Output Power Plot- When Gain Compression Frequency is set as 900 MHz (Input Tone Frequency)

    Regards,

    Anu
