I would like to simulate a signal chain from coil antenna to an ADC, what tool do you recommend?
On behalf of Matt Duff.Unfortunately I don’t have a good answer for you. The trick is that you need some sort of package that has models for all the items in the signal chain, which is a tall order. Simulation packages have strengths and weaknesses, and we tend to create models for the packages that are best suited for the particular part type, rather than than a full signal chain. For our ADCs we offer the Virtual Eval I mentioned, IBIS models, and ADIsimADC models, but what is offered depends on the ADC. For our amps we offer spice models. There is very little cross over between the two. If it’s an RF signal chain you might try ADIsimRF. If you have any ideas for an environment that you think has the capabilities to model what you want out of your signal chain, please let me know. When we create our models there is always a debate here on what things our customers would like to model vs. which things they don’t care about.
I think that ADIsimRF is your best bet. It can simulate signal level, cascaded noise and IMD3 distortion for a complete signal chain and comes with a library of over 400 device models from LNAs to ADCs.
