ADV7611 in dual link mode

I have following queries on ADV7611:

1. I need to know if AD7611  can be used in dual link mode, with one ADV7611 receiving even/odd pixel and second ADV7611 receiving odd pixels.User guide for the part mentions dual link mode (REFER ADI UG-180, pg 38). Please share the details of the solution where this is incorporated

2. ADV7611 has in-built equalizer, as per the datasheet. Can you share more specifications on the equalizer part?

Regards,

jyoti

  • Hi Jyoti,

    1) ADV7611 has no direct support at all for dual link mode aside from that mention which is only about HDCP. You would need to buffer and send the same clock to 2 different ADV7611 and then do something with the outputs to merge them to make dual link work.  There are customers who have done this but there is no special functionality in ADV7611 to support it.

    2) All the scripts and recommended settings document contain EQ settings that are characterized to have the best performance across the widest range of conditions. We don't currently offer any more documentation on the EQ than is in the HW Guide as we don't currently support customizing the EQ settings. This could change in the future, but that is the case at the moment.

  • Hi Dave,

    Thank you for the reply.

I understand that ADV7611 does not have a functionality that enables it to be used in dual link. However, by using external control hardware, we can achieve this.

Can you share a reference design where ADV7611 has been used in dual link mode?

    Regards,

    Jyoti

  • Hello Jyoti,

We have no reference design for this-- customers have implemented it but their solution is their own.

  • Hi Dave,

The questions Jyoti has asked were in refernce to ADV7619. The datasheet says it supports a dual link in case of pixel clocks higher than 170MHz. Could you please help us know if the same is compliant to the DVI 1.0 dual link standard or will the part support DVI 1.0 in dual link/up to 300MHz pixel clock.

Also, the other question in regard to the Equalizer performance is again for ADV7619. Please suggest.

    Regards

    Mohit

  • Hi Mohit,

The answer is no different for ADV7619.  There is no support or reference design for dual-link mode.  Greater than 170Mhz, the output of the ADV7619 is dual-pixel-- two pixels per clock on a double wide bus.  This has nothing to do with daul-link.

We have no parts that have any special support for dual-link.  Customers have done this externally.

There is no additional documentation for the EQ than what is in the hardware guide-- same as ADV7611/12.
