EVAL-ADV7280EBZ

I'm trying to get going with the EVAL-ADV7280EBZ.  I have downloaded all the files and installed the "DVP Eval Latest Source 10-11-14" software.  I am following the "ADV7280 installation guide Rev A.pdf".  I choose my board to be "ADV7280_CUST" and click load.  Everything seems to be working until it gets to "Loading ADV7391::Encoder..." when it hangs (See the screenshot below).  What should I do?

  • Hello,

Sorry to hear that you're having problems.

Could you please reboot your PC.

Then try removing all the jumpers on the board, especially the jumper on K3. K3 is located close to the reset button on the evaluation board.

Can you also make sure that you have the evaluation board powered up and connected via a USB cable to your PC.

Re-open DVP eval latest source and see if it is now working.

    Regards,

  • Also could you please go to the following folder in your computer:

    C:\Documents\Analog Devices\DVP Eval Latest Source 10-14-11\xml\New Boards\Recent Boards Added\ADV7280_CUST

Inside this folder you should have the following:

    1) A Scripts folder

    2) board_info.txt

    3) ADV7280_Cust.xml

    4) ADV7391.xml

If any/all of the above files/folders are missing then the ADV7280 files have not been loaded correctly.

  • None of the jumpers are connected.  The board is as it was when I took it out of the box.  The power is connected. The USB is connected.  Already tried the PC reboot.

  • "C:\Users\jfix\Documents\Analog Devices\DVP Eval Latest Source 10-14-11\xml\New Boards\Recent Boards Added\ADV7280_CUST" does exist.  However, it is empty!  As a result of File->Update Boards it seems to have created the following in the "xml" folder:

    ADV7280_CUST.xml

    ADV7280_CUST_stub.xml

    ADV7391.xml

    evalapp.xml

Maybe I should copy these files into the "...Recent Boards Added\ADV7280_CUST" folder???

  • It looks like the ADV7280 board files were not installed correctly.

I advise un-installing  the ADV7280 board files from DVP eval latest source and trying again.

How to unsinstall the ADV7280 board files:

    1) Open DVP Eval Latest Source.

    2) Press Scritps -> Run Py Scritps

    3) In the window that opens, scroll down to the bottom and select RemoveBoards.py

    4) Press Open

    5) The Remove Boards window will now appear.

    6) Press Refresh Board List and then select the ADV7280_CUST.

    7) Press 'Delete Selected Boards'.

    •      Also delete ADV7280_CUST_STUB if it appears in the list of Boards.

    8) Go to "C:\Users\jfix\Documents\Analog Devices\DVP Eval Latest Source 10-14-11\xml\New Boards\Recent Boards Added\". Delete the folder ADV7280_CUST.

    •      Also delete ADV7280_CUST_STUB if it exists.

    9) Go to "C:\Users\jfix\Documents\Analog Devices\DVP Eval Latest Source 10-14-11\scripts". Delete the folder ADV7280_CUST and ADV7280_CUST_STUB if they exist.

How to re-install the board files:

    1) Use Filezilla to go to the FTP site.

    2) Go to the folder ADV7280 -> Software.

    3) Copy the folder ADV7280_CUST to your computer's desktop.

    4) When download is complete copy the folder to the location:

         C:\Users\jfix\Documents\Analog Devices\DVP Eval Latest Source 10-14-11\xml\New Boards

    5) Open DVP Eval Latest Source

    6) Select File -> Update Boards

I would like to make sure that the board is not the source of the problem.

Please do not connect the USB cable to the evaluation board.

    7) Press Choose Board and select ADV7280_CUST.

    8) Wait for the board files to load. Note with the board disconnected this can take upto 5 minutes.

    9) After the board files load, the bottom of DVP EVAL window should say 'Board Disconnected' next to a red circle.

    10) Power up the ADV7280 evaluation board and connect the USB cable from the ADV7280 evaluation board to the PC.

    11) Press 'Hardware Reset'. The bottom of DVP EVAL window should now say 'Board Connected' next to a green circle. It should now be possible to program the ADV7280 evaluation board.

  • Nope. Didn't work   It's still stuck on the same thing as in my original post.  I have to kill the application with the Task Manager.

The "...Recent Boards Added\ADV7280_CUST" folder is still empty.

I just tried it on an old XP machine and it worked.  So, what could be the problem on my Windows 7 machine?

  • This issue is still not resolved.  Please help.

  • Hello,

It looks like Windows 7 is blocking the DVP Eval software from writing files to the C:\Users\jfix\Documents\Analog Devices directory.

I use DVP Eval software on a windows 7 PC myself without any issue.

I have seen issues like this on Windows 7 machines where the user did not have administrator privileges.

Can you ensure that you have full administrator privileges to the PC and to the C:\Users\jfix\Documents\Analog Devices directory?

Could you also check that your anti-virus software is not somehow interfering with the DVP_EVAL software?

In the mean time I will look into seeing if there is a way of manually adding board files to the DVP_EVAL software.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Robert

  • I do have full admin privileges on this PC.  I just turned off the anti-virus software and tried again but to no avail.  I did, however, install it on my co-workers Windows 7 machine and added the board without any problems.

How do I completely un-install the DVP Eval software from my machine? It doesn't show up in the programs list.

  • How to uninstall DVP Eval Latest Source:

    1) Go to the folder: C:\Users\jfix\Documents\Analog Devices\DVP Eval Latest Source 10-14-11\

    2) Double click on the Uninstall DVP Eval Latest Source 10-14-11.exe executable file.

    3) Follow the on-screen instructions.

    Regards,

    Robert
