AD9880 HDMI compatibiltiy issures with modern pro camcorders

I am looking for an expert on the AD9880 HDMI Receiver Chip. So I am hoping somebody can give me an idea on a problem we have with the AD9880. 4 years ago we designed a few of this chip into our "presentation recorder" which is a special kind of lecture recorder. This is not a new design but we want to extend the life of this product.

Until recently, with most consumer cameras this worked fine. Now we are seeing some camcorders which do not connect with our AD9880 HDMI Input. Mostly this problem occurs with the professional camcorders and cameras.

- Is it possible, that these (HDMI 1.4) camcorders are not backward compatible with the HDMI 1.1 AD9880?

- Do you know of any issues in this area and tricks to overcome this?

- Do you have a proven setup or script for the AD9880 which will definetely work with a HDMI 1.4 camcorder.

The latest case of failure was with a Canon XA10 professional camcorder.

Perhaps you are able to refer me to a person or a forum potentially helpful with this question?

Many thanks and best regards

    Hello Wolfgang,

Unfortunately AD9880 support is limited to the docs already posted. It's an NRND part that will probably go obsolete sooner rather than later.

The only issues we are aware of center around 1080p rather than any HDMI version issue as this was a pretty uncommon format when that chip was designed. You'll find several threads with suggestions for that if you search. Notably increasing the core voltage from 1.8V to 1.9V can solve some problems. That's really all we can offer.

The current replacement for AD9880 is ADV7842.
