HDMI output from laptops not seen using repeater application AD7612-AD7511

We use the Analog devices repeater application for most of our HDMI event processing. Is it supposed to support all resolutions? We connect a Macbook HDMI output to our IO card (which is running the application on the microblaze) and see VIC as 0.

Is this valid? I dont see the VIC being modified anywhere in the application either. (Not sure if I missed any spot). From what I understand, whatever the receiver chip sees is being passed up as is to the software. Is that right? Are there any other parameters to be looked at?

What is the right behavior? Or should we add any additional DMT formats?

VIC 0 is not a valid VIC according to CEA-861.

Connect a terminal emulator to the 7612-7511 eval. board and see what the repeater code reports as the connection is made.  This would give you some in-sight into what the macbook is transmitting.

The repeater code will copy the EDID from the sink and move it to the 7612 so the Mac and read it.  After that is handles any HDCP transactions if you have the non=P version of the ADV7612

  • Thanks Guenter. If the mac resolution is not set to any of sink's supported video formats, what is it expected to it? Would it continue sending at an earlier format or would it change the resolution to one of the sink supported formats?

I will test with our eval board too and send an update.

Normally the source will default to 648x480p60 DVI mode.  It might also default to 720p

Check 7612 IO HIDM_MODE_RAW bit.  This will indicate if the source is in DVI or HDMI mode.  If in DVI mode then there will be no info-frames which contain the VIC number.

The source might not be getting the right EDID from the 7612 or it doesn't like any of the formats the EDID indicates so it outputs the default format.

You could use the registers in the STDI block to determine the format if no VIC is reported.
