EVAL-ADV7802 purchase

Category: Hardware
Product Number: eval-adv7802

Hello

I am interested in ADV7802, since I do not want HDMI but rather just analog inputs digitization to full 444 RGB 10-bit or 12-bit digital video to be later on used with a video scaler.

I searched for a chip to do it all and only ADV7802 and ADV7842 appeared to be still not obsolete. Thus, I picked 7802.

I am in Jordan but still can't buy this evaluation board online from anywhere.

For your kind help.

  • hello

looks like adv7842 is a better choice even if i won't use the hdmi features. can you still offer this eval board for it?

  • Hi,

Thank you for your interest in ADI Parts.

Please provide the response for the below question

    1. What is your company Name?

    2. What are the customer’s use cases?

    Thanks,

    Ebin

  • Hello

My company is Thundertronics, you can check its products on thundertronics.net and I am thinking of making a video scaler based on ADV7842. ADV7842 digitizes old analog video and then use my own FPGA design to do the scaling and so on.

    best regards,

  • Hi ,

Please refer to the below link :ADV7842 Datasheet and Product Info | Analog Devices to purchase the Eval hardware.

    Thanks,

  • Hello

I signed with company email and proceeded with the steps, now under verification. what comes next?

  • Hi ,

As mentioned in the product details, an HDMI and HDCP license is required to use this evaluation hardware. The license status can be verified using the Enforcement Search Tool available at the following link.

    Thanks,

  • Hello

I believe this is not correct for the evaluation board, and this was confirmed previously when I asked about it couple of years ago. Because AD made the evaluation board and they paid the license fees, however when I intend to make my own product using the chip itself then I pay the license for sure.

check the previous answer here:  RE: ADV7800 or similar SD RGB handling he clearly said i do not need a license to get the eval board which makes sense, don't forget that people used to buy it this board easily as an end-user product without licensing.

I really hope you can just give one one of these boards, the one without HDCP would be fantastic and I really won't use the HDMI features all together.

    for your kind help

    regards

  • I have other important questions about adv7842:

    - I have sources that should have 320x224p, 256x240p, some 480i and equivalent PAL ones. meaning not strictly standard 720x240 or 720x480. I read that SDP always produces total lines of 858 and active 720 which won't be ok with my sources.

How can I dial it up to produce the correct active pixels and sample them correctly? I want to be able to produce correct active region pixels and do not care much about total line.

    - If so, then can CP accept composite and s-video as well?

    - based on previous questions, can TBC work for composite and s-video on CP as well?

    thanks

  • Hi ,

Regarding the evaluation hardware purchase, HDMI and HDCP licenses are not required for the ADV7800 and ADV7802. However, since the ADV7842 includes an HDMI input, the purchaser must be an HDMI Adopter (member of HDMI.org) and must also have a valid HDCP license. Regarding the above question , the SoC can Crop the desired portion of the active video on the vertical dimension and Horizontal dimension.

    Thanks,

  • Hello

1- HDMI license: kindly check the response I linked to you which was provided by AD previously and it was for ADV7842 not 7800 or 7802. I just want the non-HDCP version to do my testing and development. All development boards available from many vendors which uses HDMI do not require the buyer to have one since I am buying a ready-to-use product not bare chip or anything like it. This is a confirmed thing, so please re-check again for a possibility of me getting the board.

2- Custom non-standard resolutions: I do not want crop or anything but rather correct sampling of the signal. If I know a signal to be 320x224p active pixels with its own aspect ratio, then I want to capture it as is. Doing SDP will force it to have an active horizontal of 720 lines which is not correct.

I have been searching and found that CP can use one of the closest biggest standard modes then use custom PLL and division setting to allow the precise output active region. I did not fully understand it so if you can kindly give me an example setting on the 320x224p using it.

3- will CP accept RGB, YPbP only or can it accept S-video and CVBS?

4- Auto Graphics, can it accept non-RGB like ypbpr and s-video?

5- after dialing all that as I mentioned above, can i dial in the phase? so I can get sharp pixels.

6- My output of choice is 10 bit RGB 444, meaning 30 bits 444 RGB total. However, do all signals measured and converted like that without forced subsampling or so? especially composite and s-video.

I really hope you can find a way to sell me the board, as I am serious about using the chip.

    regards,
