(ADV7480)BCAP setting

Hi !

I have few question about ADV7480.

1)

When our customer use ADV7480 as repeater system, they have to set BCAP register.

They have to set Bcaps[5] & Bcaps[6].

When should they set these register?

Can they set this before "first part of authentication protocol"?

2)

After they use ADV7480 as repeater , sometime the quit output from HDMI port.

When this happens , I think the second system will not be repeater.

So the should change the Bcaps register.

Is my understanding correct?

Also if they have to change the Bcaps register , should they restart ADV7480 ?

I mean do they have to restart from "first part of authentication protocol"?

Or changing Bcaps register is enough?

Best regards

Kawa

  • Hi Jeyasudha.M

Thank you for you support every day.

    I understood what you said.

I think this question is outside of ADV7480.

So I will ask to my customer to ask to Digital Content Protection LLC.

Our customer is out today so I will call my customer tomorrow.

    Best regards.

    Hi,

Please find our expert answer below

    1)      This is described in the HDCP specification.

The REPEATER bit should be set before the HDCP transmitter initiates authentication. If the system is a repeater, that should therefore be set at the initialization of the system.

The READY bit should be set when the HDCP repeater has gathered the attached KSVs and computed the versication value, as required by the HDCP specification.

Please refer to the HDCP specification for the details.

     2)      I do not know the answer to this. Does the HDMI physical connection between the SoC and Monitor B remains when the HDMI input is routed to Monitor A only? That might be enough to have the system still qualified as a repeater.

I think the customer should contact the Digital Content Protection LLC to clarify the status of their system to make sure they configure it in the correct manner.

If the Digital Content Protection LLC tell them they need to change the REPEATER bit during operation, I suggest they also ask the Digital Content Protection LLC what the correct flow is to do it. If they have to change the REPEATER bit during operation, I would think the authentication has to restart, so they will need a way to force the HDCP transmitter to restart authentication from the first part of the authentication protocol. The Digital Content Protection LLC should be able to suggest a compliant way to do that.
