7604 VSYNC

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: 7604

Hi,
ADV7604 is used for DVI signal decoding – 1024x2048/59Hz.
Prim_Mode set to 110b (HDMI-GR).
Vertical filter is locked and horizontal/vertical measurement registers give correct values (LINE_WIDTH=1024, FIELD0/1_HEIGHT=2048). But the frequency of VSYNC signal generated by chip is 30Hz only and in addition VSYNC is not fixed to the same line numbers resp. to the start of field.
The same DVI signal connected to ADV7611 (Prim_Mode set to 110b) – no problem – VSYNC 59Hz and synchronous to DE (fixed to start of the field).
Where could be a problem with 7604?

Thanks

Vilem

  • Hi,

The ADV7604 can regenerate the sync signal, and using the CP core, adjust the HS, VS and DE signals as required.

The ADV7604 can support non-standard video formats within certain limits i.e. clock limitations etc. There is an autographic note attached to the design support files - I'd recommend you start by using this note and an eval board to determine if the part will do what you need.

Do you have the ADV7604 evaluation platform (hardware/software)?

Perhaps we can approach this in a different way.  If you are primarily focused on VGA input, look at the configuration in the script file with same  input (VGA) and resolution and make sure your source code has all of the recommended writes.equalization settings, etc. that are listed for the ADV7604.  You can ignore writes to 0x50 (FPGA) and 0x72 (ADV7510.)  Basically, you should do all of the writes that is listed in this configuration, and then change only the registers that are needed for your application.

  • Hi,

is autographic mode available also for digital (DVI) input? In 7604 hardware manual, there is written on page 49 that for HDMI or DVI data the HDMI mode is intended. And in paragraph 4.2 there is the recommendation PRIM_MODE[3:0]: 0x06; VID_STD[5:0]: 0x02 for HDMI mode if free run and decimation are not required. To select autographic mode we would need set PRIM_MODE[3:0]: 0x02 and VID_STD[5:0]: 0x07 (?) Is it correct?

    Thanks

    Vilem

  • Hi,

Yes. Autographic mode is available also for digital (DVI) input.
For selecting autographic mode, we would need to set PRIM_MODE[3:0]: 0x02 and VID_STD[5:0]: 0x07.

  • Hi,

for DVI input and autographic mode - I suppose, is it still necessary to set HS/VS muxes to select HS/VS from HDMI source? SYNC_CH1/2_HS_SEL[1:0] = 11b and SYNC_CH1/2_VS_SEL[1:0]=11b, is that correct?

    Thanks

    Vilem

  • Hi,

Two muxes are used to select HS_1 and HS_2 from the three possible HSync signals. Similarly, two muxes are used to select VS_1 and VS_2 from the three possible VS signals. These muxes are controlled by SYNC_CH1_HS_SEL[1:0], SYNC_CH1_VS_SEL[1:0], SYNC_CH2_HS_SEL[1:0], and SYNC_CH2_VS_SEL[1:0]. The outputs of these four muxes, as well as the internal EMB_SYNC_1 and EMB_SYNC_2 signals from the sync slicers (as described in Section 10.7.2) are passed to a clock registering and deglitch block

  • Hi,

now it seems we have found the configuration that works well  We programmed video standard, as you adviced, to auto-graphics. But primary mode we programmed to PRIM_MODE[3:0]=0b0110 (HDMI-GR). In addition we wrote (CP map, 0x85)=0xB (disable Autodetectmode for Sync_Source for CH1, force CH1 to use seperate HS & VS). Yes, it works, but I´m a little confused, because it doesnn´t fully conform to the 7604 hw documentation.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

do you have any comment on the our above comment? I´m afraid we have found a solution by a chance, without background from documentation. Is the above descriebed procedure correct?

  • Hi,

    • COMP mode (PRIM_MODE[3:0] set to 0x01)
    • GR mode (PRIM_MODE[3:0] set to 0x10)
    • HDMI mode (PRIM_MODE[3:0] set to values 0x05 or 0x06)

     GR
Analog-graphic mode. This mode is intended for RGB input signals with high bandwidth.
This mode is enabled by setting PRIM_MODE[3:0] appropriately.

     HDMI
HDMI mode. In HDMI mode the ADV7604 can receive and decode HDMI or DVI data
throughout the DVI/HDMI receiver front end. Video data from the HDMI receiver is routed
to the DPP and CP blocks while audio data is available on the audio interface.
This mode is enabled by selecting either the HDMI (Graphics) primary mode or HDMI (Comp) primary
    mode.
