Requirement on Video encoder and decoder devices

Category: Hardware

Hi Team,
We have below two devices requirement for the new design.
Decoder -->2 PAL analog signal to two digital video signal (ITU-R BT656 YCbCr).
Encoder --> 2 digital video signal (ITU-R BT656 YCbCr) to 2 PAL analog signal.
Kindly request you to suggest the appropriate part which is meets the above requirement.
Please do let me know for any clarification.

  • ADI North America will be on summer shutdown starting August 24, 2023; perhaps another community member can assist you until our return on September 5th.
  • Hi,

    Decoder:

Please note that, We do not have a single chip which can decode 2 CVBS inputs and 1 HDMI input at the same time. Devices like the ADV7842 can handle all these inputs however only one video path can be fully active at any time.

ADV7842 can only process one Video stream at a time.  It has multiple inputs which it can select from.

Basically, each active stream will take one active chip. Some chips like the ADV7842 allow video muxing of the input source to be processed.

    Encoder:

We have a number of encoders which can support digital video signal into PAL Output but none of the Part can process two inputs at a time.

    Thanks,

    Poornima

  • Hi,

And I have selected one part ADV7281A which can convert 2 differential analog input to Digital output MIPI-CSI2. Will it convert 2 analog input to digital output at a time?

All our video decoders are single video channel parts and there is only one output bus so we would need 2 ADV part to process two inputs simultaneously similarly for 3 channels, we would need 3 ADV parts.
Please note that "ADI does not have a chip that can handle multiple video streams at the same time.
As far as all Analog Video decoders can only select (and thus output) one stream at a time.
If a project requires multiple video streams simultaneously, they will need multiple video decoder parts.

    Thanks,

    Poornima

  • HI,

    Thanks for the details....

Can you please suggest the multiple video decoder parts?

Also please suggest the encoder part which can converts Two MIPI DSI to two analog differential output (CVBS).

  • Hi,

We have a chipset that can do CVBS to MIPI out, But we don't have single chip conversion for MIPI to CVBS. It will require two chip for converting MIPI to CVBS .

Analog Devices can provide video decoder parts that will convert the NTSC analog video into a digital format (either TTL or MIPI CSI-2). The digital output from the video decoder can be fed into the microprocessor. The microprocessor can then convert the output to MIPI DSI.

Freescale, Qualcomm, Intel and other companies have a variety of microprocessors that can output MIPI DSI.

    Thanks,

    Poornima

  • Hi poornima,

    Thanks for the details....

"But we don't have single chip conversion for MIPI to CVBS"

OK do you have any chip which is converting differential signals like (EX:LVDS) to Analog Signal (Differential)? If so please suggest the part.(Analog out should support differential signal like decoder ADV7281A

I have checked your product page in the encoder section and I have not get any part which is supporting LVDS to analog. I'm seeing the part which only converting HDMI, Pixel parallel data to analog in the product selection page.

If the above one is not available, what would be the best option if we go with two chip considering our requirement?

  • Hi Poornima,

    Please ignore the below reply

We have finalized the decoder part ADV7403(analog to 30bit pixel data), similarly I have found encoder part ADV7344 which is not recommended for New design.

Can you please suggest the alternate part for ADV7344?

    Regards,

    Chitharanjan M

  • Hi,

ADV8005 encoder Part is recommended for new Designs.

Kindly note that, ADV8005 includes a high-speed digital-to-analog video encoder available with and without Rovi content protection. Six high speed, Noise Shaped Video (NSV), 12-bit video DACs provide support for composite (CVBS), S-video (Y/C), and component (YPrPb/RGB) Analog outputs in either SD, ED, or HD video formats up to 1080p.
Please refer ADV8003 product page at https://www.analog.com/en/products/adv8005.html

    Note:

Please refer our below expert comment about the NRND parts,

More parts have been recently marked as NRND recently. If you read
    https://www.analog.com/en/support/customer-service-resources/sales/product-life-cycle-information.html
closely you will see it recommends a newer replacement chip if possible. However, there is no direct replacement for this part.
We’re still making parts, but this device is on the decline side of a products life cycle. You can make new products with them but NRND clarifies the level of support that will be available….
In general ADI makes devices as long as they are sellable and profitable. Watch for "Last Time Buy" notices. This means production will stop soon. If you use this part I'd suggest registering for LTB notices.
Note: This is Our opinion and experience, not an official statement by ADI. Ultimately this decision is up to you.

    Thanks,

    Poornima

  • HI,

    Thanks for the suggestion....

ADV8005/3 is huge for our requirement. We need simple 24/30 bit digital to 2 differential CVBS out.

    Regards,

    Chitharanjan M

  • Also Just to confirm ADV7403 does is support YCbcr out? because in the datasheet no where mentioned about Ycbcr.

Mentioned about Ycrcb, is this same?

  • HI poornima,

We have selected below encoder and decoder part by comparing with the other parts w.r.t our requirement.

Here we need your help to get clarification on encoder part. ADV7391, Is it support Differential analog input like below decoder part? please confirm this, because we need encoder part with differential input and you can ignore above two reply.

    Encoder - ADV7391

    Decoder- ADV7182A

    Regards,

    Chitharanjan M

  • Hi,

Our Encoder part will support only digital input to analog output & It's just a DAC (Digital to Analog Convertor).

Kindly note that, ADV739x has 3 DAC outputs each are single ended only but you can interface any of the below drivers to achieve single ended to differential output.

CAT-5 Video Drivers | Analog Devices

CAT-5 Video Receivers | Analog Devices
or op amp style amplifiers like the AD8042
Video Op Amps | Analog Devices

    Thanks,

    Poornima
