ADV7511 Aspect ratio setting

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: ADV7511

Hi,teams

I have two questions below.

If 0x56[3:0] is set to "1000 = Same as Aspect Ratio", is it correct to recognize that the Aspect Ratio value of 0x17[1] is reflected?

➁Is 0x17[1] automatically populated from the detected VIC (0x3E[7:2])?
Or do I have to manually look at the value of 0x3E[7:2] and set the value to 0x17[1]?

Best Regard.

  • Hi,

Please note that "HDMI Sinks are expected to detect info frames and to process the received Audio/Video appropriately" So set format aspect ratio if the source knows it else leave it to the default value of '0000 (0x56[3:0]).

AVI Info-frame is sent to the receiver to help it determine the intended aspect ratio and other formatting parameters of the video being transmitted across the HDMI link. The Y1Y0 bits (0x55[6:5]), which tell the sink whether YCbCr 4:2:2,4:4:4 or RGB are sent, and the Picture Aspect Ratio bits (0x56[5:4]) are required fields .(RX and TX Parts information should Match )

➁Is 0x17[1] automatically populated from the detected VIC (0x3E[7:2])?set format aspect ratio if the source knows it else leave it at the default of '0000
Or do I have to manually look at the value of 0x3E[7:2] and set the value to 0x17[1] ?

No, it's not required to configure the "0x17" register and It has no effect on the operation of the part. It's all about what goes out in the info frame.

    Thanks,
