ADV7391 last pixel of each line is black

Category: Hardware
Product Number: ADV7391

Hello,

I am using the ADV7391 in monochrome NTSC 640X480 NTSC SD square pixel (YCrCb) mode.

I program the part with I2C conf (Table 79) via a n FPGA:

0x17

0x02

0x00

0x1C

0x01

0x00

0x80

0x10

0x82

0xDB

0x8C

0x55

0x8D

0x55

0x8E

0x55

0x8F

0x25

Clkin = 24.540 MHz.

The pixel 640 of each line is black ( I have a black column on the right of my image). I do not understand why.

Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Hi,

ADV739x can support RS-170 NTSC Video output successfully. Try setting the 'SD Burst and SD Chroma' =1 to disable the burst. Since it is an NTSC without color.

The reason for black column on the right of the image might be depend upon the receiver system whether it is ITU-R BT.656-3 or ITU-R BT.656-4. If the receiver system is expecting an ITU-R BT.656-4 output from the ADV739x, then this can result in 10 lines of black video being output at the Top/Side of the screen.
This generally occurs with NTSC CVBS video inputs but not with PAL CVBS inputs. This is because of difference in the blanking timing between the ITU-R BT.656-3 and ITU-R BT.656-4 standards for digitized NTSC.

    Thanks,

    Poornima
