[ADV748x] About RX_5V_VBUS pin pull-down resistor

Hi,

There is the following description on page 143 of ADV748x_HardwareManual_RevPrB_2014-07-11.pdf.

"Important: When using the RX_5V / VBUS pin on the ADV748x, a large pull down resistor (100kΩ typical) to ground should be connected to this pin."

Why do we need a 100kΩ pull-down resistor?

Best regards.

  • Hi,

As already stated "100 Ohm series resistor in combination with internal ESD will protect the input against any ESD hits on the connector".

By connecting this way the ESD energy would get absorbed in the resistor instead of damaging the silicon.  Also an ESD protection circuit in front 100 Ohm resistor would help even more (digital inputs utilize a 100 Ohm series resistor for ESD protection)

    Thanks,
