AD725

Dear support team

From one of my customers:

We have used the AD725 to convert PC VGA to composite analog PAL video.

This design is based on AD725 data sheet schematic (page 12).

It seems that the PC is output a VGA non-interlace data , so this device can’t output correct composite analog PAL to video monitor.

We can’t control on the graphic card on the PC.

Do you have any idea how to solve this issue with the AD725 ?

Do you have any other chip that can do this job with pure hardware solution ( without any software registers programming ) ?

Thanks

  • Hi,

As per specification "AD725 can be used to convert the analog RGB output from a personal computer’s VGA card to the NTSC or PAL television standards. It is important to understand that the AD725 requires interlaced RGB video and
clock rates that are consistent with those required by the television standards. In most computers the default output is a non interlaced RGB signal at a frame rate higher than used by either NTSC or PAL.

Note:  Most VGA controllers support a wide variety of output modes that are controlled by altering the contents of internal registers. It is best to consult with the VGA controller manufacturer to determine the exact configuration required to provide an inter-laced output at 60 Hz (50 Hz for PAL).

    Thanks,

  • Hello Poornima

We know this limitation from the DS and this is the reason we have asked for:

  • Hi,

To use with AD725,you need an P2I conversion chip. Unfortunately we don't have any other parts that will do P2I conversion.

For single chip solution you can use parts like the ADV7842 have multiple analog inputs and also an I/P(interlaced to progressive) convertor. Please refer here https://ez.analog.com/video/w/documents/798/adv7842-design-support-files

    Thanks,
