Convert VGA input to CSI-2

 ADV7482 can meet your requirement. Please refer here ez.analog.com/.../adv7482-design-support-files

 ADV7482 is an integrated video decoder and HDMI receiver. ADV7482 features an HDMI receiver, a CP, an AFE, an SDP, an 8-bit digital input/output port, two MIPI CSI-2 transmitters and an audio output port.
And also MIPI CSI-2 Tx can only support 1-lane, 2-lane or 4-lane operation; 3-lane operation is not supported.

Thanks for your quick response.

Please note that, we require Analog VIN  which needs 3 no. ADCs.  However ADV7482 has only 1 no. ADC for SD.

Please suggest a suitable part to meet our requirement specification.

ADV7482 has AIN1 to AIN7. Total 8 channel for analog input. Please confirm, on any channel AIN1 to AIN7 I can take VGA input. and it can convert to CSI-2.

  Using AIN pins we can take the input from CVBS,Y/C ,YPrPb interface & generally it will decode the low formats like PAL,NTSC,SECAM etc.

However HDMI capable receiver supports a maximum pixel clock frequency of 162 MHz, allowing HDTV formats up to 1080p, and display resolutions up to UXGA (1600 × 1200 at 60 Hz).

But we haven't try the VGA input using AIN pins with this ADV7482 part, Please try with VGA input using AIN pins & let us know.

Ok, I go through ADV7482 full data sheet, Now I understand AN1 to AN8 only supports CVBS,Y/C ,YPrPb for PAL,NTSC,SECAM formats. VGA has high resolution up to 1600 × 1200 at 60 Hz. which will not supported by ADV7482 or ADV7481.

So, Have ADI some other solution to convert 3-channel analog VGA input to MIPI CSI2?

  Your requirement would be like you need to give RGB graphics input to three AIN pins right?

  If so please try to configure the ADC0_SW register which is available in ADV7482 & configure PRIM_MODE, VID_STD registers according to your input.

Yes, VGA RGB signals will connect to three AIN pins. VGA input will have other control signals HSYNC and VSYNC to connect ADV7482. Can HSYNC and VSYNC connect to ADV7482?

can ADC0_SW register able to select AIN0, AIN1 and AIN3 simultaneously, because VGA input will have simultaneously RGB inputs to process.

 Please note in general you need to connect the ADC register in below way, So please configure adc0_sw,adc1_sw,adc2_sw registers to process the RGB input & keep the PRMI_MODE as 'Graphics Mode(0010)'

ADC0 <= Y/ G

ADC1 <= Pr/ R

ADC2 <= Pb/ B

How can I process Hsync and Vsync signals from VGA? it seems there are no Hsync and Vsync with ADV7482.

  I suggested the SOG/SOY since you are giving the RGB input but when seeing the block diagram it seems its not possible for us to give the external sync input.

Hi,

ADV7482 can accept VGA via HDMI port if so HDMI carries HSYNC and VSYNC signals or are you asking about the external HSYNC/VSYNC ?

Note: HDMI receiver supports video formats ranging from 480i to 1080p, and display resolutions from VGA (640 × 480 at 60 Hz) to UXGA (1600 × 1200 at 60 Hz) .

Hi, I'm asking of the actual physical conversion of RGBVH signals coming from a vide card  to CSI2...by using the ADV7482...could you confirm is this possible?

If not possible is there a AD solution for this scenario?

Hi,

  If so please consider two ADV part to acheive RGBVH signals to CSI2.

  ADV7401 part can support RGBHV (AIN1/AIN2/AIN-3 - Red/Blue/Green and .Vsync to VS-IN, Hsync to HS_IN)

  Then in ADV7482 feed the digital output from ADV7401 for CSI2 conversation.
