ADV7511 in a new design

We are currently not an HDMI Licensee but will move forward with a license once we have determined if the ADV7511 will meet our performance requirements. Can you answer their question below which is not in the on-line data brief?

 

 

The biggest question we have right now before moving forward with this is the support of the resolution 2560x1080.

 

We have a customer with a requirement for this output. At first glance the ADV7511 device seems like it will work (pixel clk 225Mhz), but if we could get confirmation of this we will be happy to move forward with the HDMI adopter application.

    I'll check to see if any of our HDMI generators can generate this resolution. What frame rate is the customer looking for? 60Hz?

    The max input clock rate is 165MHz.  The 225MHz applies to the max TMDS rate which would be for 1080p60 12-bit deep color.  If your source is below 165MHz pixel rate then the ADV7511 should be able to handle it.

    I looked in Appendix D of the user guide for our HDMI generator:

    and I don't see a resolution which matches active 2560 x 1080 at 60Hz.

    Can you take a look and see if any match your requirements?

    Thanks for the link to the HDMI User Guide. You are correct the 2560 x 1060 format is not explicitly called out.

    The customer made the following calculation based on the desired format:

    "I know this part (ADV7511) can’t do HDMI 2.0 or 4K resolutions, but we are hoping that it can do 2560 x 1080 @ 60Hz.  At reduced blanking my calculator shows a pixel clock of 181MHz.  Do you have any insight on if that resolution is possible with this IC?"

     If the 181MHz pixel clock is an accurate calculation, will the ADV7511 support that pixel clock speed? Or as you stated earlier, the maximum speed is limited to 165MHz?
