ADP190 maximum input voltage

Question asked by Gneut on Nov 3, 2011

Triggered by functionality and dimensions of the ADP190 power switch it suited well in my design. However, I see a drawback regarding the maximum input voltage: 3.6V, and according the datasheet 4.0V as absolute maximum. Looking at as combination of 3x NiMg batteries, fully charged it offers at least 4.1V and a fully charged Lipo battery cell 4.2V. This makes it hard to implement the ADP190 with any Lipo cell. The device is designed for low power and I do not want to loose battery charge  to have voltage from a Lipo cell dropping below 4.0V

How strict is the 4.0V absolute maximum? Any suggestions to overcome this?
