I would like to know what is the recommended ADF7242 device configuration & mode transition delays to be set for ensuring maximum data rates. What is the maximum data rate expected under this configuration for a PER of 1%?

The default configuration is in accordance with the IEEE 802.15.4 spec. There are a few parameter you can tune, like the CSMA back-off exponents. However I don't have any insides how that affects your data rate and error rate.
So I am operating the ADF7242 in IEEE 802.15.4 mode, but having to provide larger delays between 2 packets to get better PER. Major delay is coming out to be the wait time between the transmission of 2 packets. Observation is that a 7 millisecond wait time between each packet is required for a reliable PER of less than 1%.
Please let me know if this is the correct configuration for the ADF7242 and whether I can in actual performance utilize less than 7 millisecond wait time to achieve 1% PER. What is the recommended minimum delay between 2 transmitted packets?
