I was wondering if the HMC702 and ADF5356 are compatible with each other? Can the ADF5356 be used as a VCO for HMC702 to sweep the entire band?
The ADF5356 integrates a multi core VCO capable of generating fundamental frequencies on RFoutA from 3.4 GHz to 6.8 GHz. Frequencies >6.8 GHz are possible only on the RFoutB output. Frequencies less than 3.4 GHz require programming the output divider on RFoutA.
You can use the ADF5356 as VCO for the HMC702 but to operate across the entire band first requires software to adjust the ADF5356 VCO frequency prior to closed loop operation with the HMC702 PLL. For a given operating frequency the HMC702 can slew approximately 10MHz around the ADF5356 fundamental VCO frequency set point before it is necessary to adjust the set point.
Ok I see. Is it worth to build a customised VCO for HMC702? if yes, any suggestions around particular chip?
What is the required frequency range? We have a number of octave VCO's available...
I like to sweep the entire band of HMC702. Is that ambitious?! The VCO's on the link doesn't cover the HMC702 band. Can multiple VCO's be used and then combine them?
