AD9371 SPI Read/Write Convention

I am reading through the AD9371 User Guide (UG-992), and I have a question regarding the convention used for establishing whether a command is associated with a read or a write.  Page 14 states that the MSB of the control field data is the R/W bit, and that "Logic high indicates a read operation; Logic 0 indicates a write operation".  However, the timing diagrams on page 15 show the opposite.  That is, Logic 1 is used for a write command in Figure 4.  While Logic 0 is used for the read command in Figure 5.  Can you please clarify which is the default convention for the read/write bit?
