AD9364 comes along with a very interesting AGC feature. Now Imagine you want to use the AD9364 as a GPS receiver. Let me describe this GPS architecture:
First we use an external actie antenna witha gain of around 30dB (F=3dB). Then the first block in the receiver will be a LNA with a gain of arounf 25dB and a F<1dB, second a SAW filter (5dB Insertion losses, 40dB bandwidth), and finally the AD9364. So. prior to the AD9364 input we have +30+25-5 = 50dB gain.
The GPS signal is below thermal noise, so the signal coming into the AD9364 is virtually noise (in a 20MHz bandwidth and amplified around 50dB). MY QUESTION IS:
"WILL THE ACG BLOCK INSIDE AD9364 BE ABLE TO COPE/ OPERATE CORRECTLY WITH THIS KIND OF NOISY INPUT SIGNAL? OR, IS THIS BLOCK JUST INTENDED FOR SIGNALS WELL OVER THERMAL NOISE SUCH AS GSM/LTE?"
