I have a question AD7124-8 Exposed Pad.
Exposed pad is must connect to AVss ??
What happes When Exposed pad is not connect to AVss?
Exposed pad is intended to improved thermal performance or heat dissipation of the package when it is mounted on a printed circuit board. The AD7124 provides an instruction as to connect the Exposed Pad to AVSS. The thermal resistance listed in the data sheet of a device with an exposed pad assumes the exposed pad is soldered or thermally bonded to a PCB. If the exposed pad is not connected, the specified power dissipation of the package cannot guarantee.
Is the Exposed Pad internally connected to AVSS?
What would happen if they're connected to different voltages? (like AVSS to -1.8V and EP to GND)
Like I have mentioned above, the datasheet specified to connect this to AVSS so if it is disconnected or connected other than specified we cannot guarantee performance. So please connect this to AVSS.
My reason for asking is because we've made a few prototype boards with that configuration (VSS to -1V8, EP to GROUND) and I'd like to know how that mistake is going to affect us before we populate them; if the IC is going to short the PSU to Ground we'll have to scrap them but if the issue is that the IC won't quite meet the specs datasheet we'll probably wait for next revision to fix it (although it'd be most useful to learn more details about what we should expect).
I confirmed this with the product owner, and she mentioned that the EP is not connected to AVSS on the die, so you can still use the boards.
