self-boot "presets"?

I'm looking for a way to create a few different presets for self boot sigma devices like the 1701.  I don't have a micro-controller in the system and would like to keep it that way.  I want to do this with a hardware switch (and I have a single pole multi-position switch in mind) that would be set to the appropriate position (preset) before the device is booted. My initial idea was to somehow use a shift register with one large capacity eeprom and have it "shift" the addressing of the eeprom but after some research I'm not sure I'm smart enough for that.  The other thought is to use several eeproms (8kB is apparently enough for 1701), tie all the SCL and WP lines together and switch the SDA line between eeproms with the switch.  Any other suggestions?
