UART transmits occasional garbage bits

I am using the UART RX and TX with DMA enabled. I have written a simple loopback/echo routine to transmit any bits that are received in order to test the RX and TX capabilities that my project will need to expand upon. Looking at the received/transmitted bytes in BF706 memory before enabling DMA transmission, the bytes look correct. However, during transmission I occasionally see a garbage '▒' character instead of the character that I initially sent to the device (shown below). Any idea what is causing this? Thanks!
