Easiest way to remove adv7511 from daq2 reference design and still use linux

Title pretty much says it all.  But, do to a number of reasons I would like to remove the HDMI video and SPDIF audio controllers from the DAQ2-FMC reference design and still use Analog Devices Linux from Git.  I have successfully removed the HDL from the design and rebuilt the bit stream.  I then tried to rebuild the kernel without the video and audio components, I used the zynq-xcomm-adv7511-defconfig then using menuconfig to remove the video and audio settings.  Lastly I removed the components from the device tree.  Now when I boot it gets to a point and just hangs with no response from UART terminal.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
