When Rx QEC in initialization sequence is operating, Rx input is in the open state, instead of being terminated properly, in this condition, will the performance be influenced greatly?

For optimum performance and lower calibration duration, run the Rx QEC initialization at attenuations between 0 dB and 5 dB. For optimal Rx path calibration performance, ensure a maximum signal power of −92 dBm/MHz is present at the Rx input. In addition, it is recommended that the Rx input be properly terminated while the calibration is running, as test tones are output from the receive port.
If open , it depends on the Return loss that it sees , or the reflections going back to receive.
if open, and supposing return loss is worse than 10dB, can you help me to evaluate the performance degradation in quantity?
Degradation cannot be quantified as it depends on different parameters like power , phase etc.
