Is the blackfin BF7xx architecture backwards compatible with previous models?

Hi. I have a blackfin BF706 on the ADZS-BF706-EZMINI kit, and I wish to purchase an instructional book to help me learn more about programming and using it. The book I found uses the BF533 and the BF537 EZKIT. I was just wondering if there's much difference between these processors when it comes to programming them? Obviously with different peripherals I will potentially have to make alterations to allow for that, but is the overall format for setting it up and using peripherals etc the same?

Also, I'm using cross-core embedded studio instead of Visual DSP, will that cause any significant problems would you think?

If these are not compatible enough, what is the earliest architecture that is compatible enough with the BF7xx processors?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice,

Pete
