I received a question about AD9851 from our customer. Can we get 0.1% duty 1Hz square wave from AD9851? If yes, how should we set the control word for getting the wave?
Two possible devices: AD9954, AD9910. Checking the IST for the DDS portfolio for devices with these features is always a good idea to check my memory and/or check if there are newer options as well
I can't think of a way to use the AD9851 to accomplish this. If you are interested in considering other DDS products as a basis for a solution, I think it can be done if you use one of our devices that has onboard RAM and a sweep accumulator.
You would need to configure the device with an Frequency Tuning Word of 0, making sure the phase accumulator is cleared. Set the Phase Offset Word so it outputs max value (90 degrees if configured for sin(x)), and then use the RAM to store 1000 Amplitude Scale Factors. One of those ASFs should be full scale, the others all 0. Then use the auxiliary accumulator to sweep through the RAM at a 1kHz rate.
