ADPD105/107 gain and dark skin conditions

While testing the ADPD107 on darker skin I have had trouble getting the response into a decent range for heart rate sensing even at max LED current, max gain, photodiode through single amp etc. Aside from increasing the optical efficiency and changing components, do you have any recommendations for increasing the utility of this device on dark skin conditions that result in low photo currents? Is there a reason why the device was designed with a max TIA gain of 200k ( I know the TI AFE parts have up to 2M gain on the TIA)? Also, does the ADPD103 offer better sensitivity for low photo-currents compared to the 105/107?
