ADC resolution

In AGC section of UG, it mentions that the ADC is a sigma-delta ADC. I wonder if there is a minimal over-sampling ratio requirement to guarantee the 12-bit resolution. I understand that the maximal oversampling ratio is 48 which is decided by DEC3/HB2/HB1/FIR (3x2x2x4). Then, for a fixed final sampling rate, does higher oversampling ratio give an advantage to quantization noise?

Thanks.
