Are Linux Drivers available for ADV7611 or ADV7180?
There aren't any Linux drivers that we have available. Some customers have produced them and put them out there but nothing officially ADI.
Let me add two cents here. Linux drivers is a very wide topic and your question is not clear
to me, what type of 7611 linux driver you are looking for.
1. If you asking about kernel-level driver for any particular platform - you would have to write a driver
yourself. It should be generally not a difficult task. ADV7611 has only an I2C interface, which
is normally a part of mainstream linux kernel. However task may get really complicated
depending on architecture of device you want to handle; what do your 7611 interface? Is it
2. Second thing is ADV7611 for repeater applications and embedded solutions. Our team
came across few companies wanting to implement ADV7611 device on Linux
platform in an embeded solution. As I have already said - ADV7611 has only an I2C
interface, and handling ADV7611 in order to support HDMI-repeater application can
be done entirely in userspace.
OK; now what ADI can provide?
Analog Devices can provide extensive software package under Software Licence Agreement.
It is usually an HDMI Repeater software (in case of 7611 - ported for a NXP microcontroller).
Application is build in a way it can be ported to any environment and any microcontroller
This software should have its HAL changed and startup routines accordingly to your target.
Once you have that done - you should compile it with your platform-specific gcc compiler as
a standard Linux App.
Hello Dave, Vito,
Could you please help provide the configuration file of ADV7611 base on Renesas SH7269 series MCU, C code or some referece materials at least?
Thanks a lot for your help!
We don't have anything like that. The software Vito mentioned requires an SLA but what you get is nothing like a Linux driver.
However.. there is now an ADV7611 linux driver in development supposed to available in the next few weeks. There is also a public domain ADV7604 linux driver already out there which might be helpful. We didn't make it so we can't supply it though.
I'd be very interested in obtaining the software mentioned, but I couldn't find any hints on the AD website.
I have to implement different features on an embedded linux system using an ADV7611, and it would be very convenient not to write everything from scratch using the manuals. We already have some of the features implemented, and even for those it would be of much help to have some reference code, I think, as we encountered different issues.
Could you please tell me where I can find it or how we can sign the SLA?
Thanks in advance,
with kind regards,
We use a click-through license for the basic driver code. Instructions are here: http://ez.analog.com/docs/DOC-2851
I don't know that the Linux driver for ADV7611 specifically ever was posted. There is an ADV7604 driver in the main kernel that is pretty similar though.
Thanks a lot.
I will evaluate whether I need a driver or if a user space application will do. The ADV7604 driver might be a starting point, then, thanks for the hint.
