AD 5934 Problems with the I2C interface

I am trying to establish a communication with an AD5934 and I seem to have reached a dead end. I configured an FPGA to handle the SCL and SDA lines and made a test loop in which I write 0xB0 in the upper byte of the control register, then set the pointer to indicate to that address, 0x80, and finally issue a read byte command. What I get is the default 0xA0, not the 0xB0. I did try other registers, but same reaction, I don't read what I supposedly should have written. I have only one chip to test for the time being, I was wondering if there is something wrong with what I am doing here, or the chip is defective. I have attached the waveforms I get on the oscilloscope, if anyone has any ideas...
