Can i Use HMC584 for VCO which need to work for 12Ghz to 14 Ghz. Can i use any additional circuit to overcome the drawback ( If ANy)
The HMC584 was spec and tested for 12.5G to 13.9GHz. We cannot guaranty any performance outside of the spec frequency range.
Also, please keep in mind that the ADI’s VCO guarantee that the output frequency will fall withinthe specified range of tune voltage. For example on the HMC584, the guarantee is that when Vt=2V, the output frequency will be at 12.5GHz or below; and when Vt=12V, the output frequency will be at 13.9GHz or above. Any deviation from the datasheet plots is considered normal manufacturing process variation. This normally isn’t an issue for most customers that use the VCO within a PLL with the full tune voltage range available. However, if the VCO is run open loop then it’s important to be aware that from unit-to-unit the exact frequency vs tune voltage relationship will vary.
