I am looking to utilize the AD8218 to measure current draw through a shunt. I want to connect the shunt inside the H-bridge setup. This will allow me to not only monitor current draw but also monitor the direction of motor rotation.
My question is whether this amp will work on the low side of the circuit. With a single shunt connected on one side of the motor in one direction the shunt would be on the high side of the circuit, but when the motor is reversed the shunt would be on the low side of the circuit.
I believe I would need to input a reference signal to allow this low side current sensing, and I was hoping someone here could verify my thought?
Attached is a sketch of how I want to assemble the circuit. Hopefully this adds clarity.
