Can I protect the AD8418A from 100V 50 mSec. with external series resistors.
We have an application note discussing the trade-offs of putting a external series resistor as a protection circuit. Here is the link: http://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/application-notes/AN-1318.pdf You can use like 10 ohms series resistor and add an external diode that could handle higher current.
You may also want to consider the AD628 or the AD8479 instead which has an extra protection circuit.
The internal protection diodes(Figure 1), are connected to GND and VS (5V). I am not sure that this is correct drawing.
70V common mode range will burn the in- and in+ to VS diodes.
I am sure that the internal protection diodes are actually TVS connected only to the GND.
I need to know the protection arrangement in order to use only resistors outside the device.
