Is there any option on the FMCOMMS eval platform to control data capture via an external trigger?I would like to control the capture of IQ samples from the AD9361 with an ext trigger.
Assuming it is as simple as enabling data capture with respect to an external signal- you use a GPIO as the source. The carriers (at least the ones we have designs for) all have headers, SMA and such connected to the FPGA pins. You need to pick one that is suitable for you as a GPIO. Then internally use this signal to disable the VALID signals to the DMA from the pack module. The DMA will faithfully wait until writes starts - once it is being setup by software (or whatever means) assert the trigger and data will be transferred to the DDR. You will have a latency timing wise, so design accordingly.
What is this trigger based on?
If I understood you correctly, I do not think so. At least NOT directly.
You could use a GPIO option. Have you explored that?
If the trigger is based on something ON the data it may be tricky.
I'm asking this on behalf of a customer so I am not able to provide exact details about what they wish to do, but they appear to simply have an external source (I'm not sure what it is based on) which they want to use to trigger data capture in the FPGA at specified times. From your last reply, it seems like this "direct" triggering via an external source is not an option on this eval platform.
As far as the GPIO option, would you mind going into a little bit more detail as to what this entails? I greatly appreciate your assistance.
