ADV7441A question

We have used the normal ADV7441A in the past (HDCP capable), but are now using the -5 (non-HDCP capable). It seems that the registers relating to HDCP encryption no longer contain valid information. In other words, when an encrypted source is plugged in the -5 version reports that video is okay, not encrypted, but then outputs a black screen. We would like to be able to let the user know that they have plugged in an encrypted source, and that is why they have a black screen. Any information would be helpful.
