REFIN can be a square wave, a pure sine wave or a clipped sine wave, but must meet the datasheet requirements in terms of REFIN Sensitivity, REFIN Frequency/Slew rate and nominal threshold of V

_{DD}/2.The signal level for REF

_{IN }is specified to have a voltage greater than 0.7Vpp, and less than V_{DD}, biased at V_{DD}/2. AC coupling ensures V_{dd}/2 as the REF_{IN }input circuitry is biased at V_{dd}/2.Regards,
