Is it possible to run the ADL5501 at supply voltages lower than the 2.7V specified in data sheet?
In our application, the supply may drop to 2.4 - 2.5V. Will the part still operate?
The part will probably still operate but not in a reliable way. We have never tested it at these levels.
I realize that the output buffer may not be able to swing as high with the lower supply.
I was mostly concerned about whether or not the internal circuitry (internal reference, error amp and doublers) would continue to operate. Would you be able to run this by someone there that who is familiar with the internal workings of this device?
I talked a bit to the designer about this. His feeling is that operation should be ok as long as you do not go cold. As you note, you will have less operating range because output voltage is a rail-to-rail voltage. The bigger issue though is that the internal bias circuits will collapse when the supply voltage goes below a certain level. And the colder you go in temp the earlier the collapse will happen as you reduce the supply voltage. So his feeling was that supply voltages of 2.4 to 2.5 V should be ok if you stay above 0 degC. But please don't take this as a guarantee. You would really need to get an eval board and test it out.
