In the c/c++ compiler documentation for the SHARC processor it is mentioned that byte addressing is possible for the 215x series of processors through the change in build settings in the CrossCore IDE.

However for the Sharc 211,212,213.. processors the size of CHAR_BIT is showing 32. and there is no setting to allow reading of  byte wise data for example to parse text data. when fread, fgetc etc are called it is reading minimum of 4 characters.

Is there a way to read one character at a time in these processors (Mixed Char size based on file). For example for one file the char size must be 32 and for another it must be 8.
