Can the ADG330x familly of level translators drive cables or long PCB tracks?
Since the output impedance of the channels on the ADG330x level translators is relatively high(~6K), its output current driving capability is limited. In order to preserve the integrity of the signals transmitted over long cables or PCB tracks resistive terminations are used.
As the characteristic impedance of the cables or tracks is relatively small( hundreds of Ohms or less) the use of terminators with the same impedance of the cables or tracks is impractical as it will overload the output of the level translator and degrade the output logic levels.
In this case, it is recommended to use buffers between the output of the ADG330x channels and the load but the arangement will only support data flowing in one direction which is set by the buffer.
