I need to design Camera Link connection to a BlackFin processor.
Does anyone have an idea how to do it efficiently.
there are several possibilities and various aspects:
If you can eliminate the possibility of spikes or hotplugging of CameraLink cables, the FPGA might come in handy, as you could use more resources for preprocessing. You just have to use a LVDS capable type (Spartan 3E, or greater).
If not, you'll need some kind of buffer, then the NS De/serializers might be the better choice and offer more safety. I'm not really up to date on the available chipsets, but I'm pretty sure the typical NS allow you to connect a camera gluelessly via the transceiver chips to the PPI port of the Blackfin.
Just keep in mind that the there are some limitations of the PPI clock (max. SCLK / 2), the practical limit can be SCLK / 4 if you use a lot of memory and DMA bandwidth.
