I want to use the ADL5511 with a carrier of 2MHz and a 10kHz PWM signal. Is this advisable, and if so how do I optimize my values for the Filter caps?
yes this is feasible. Firstly you need to add capacitance from FLT1 (Pin 3) to ground to reduce an internal high-pass corner frequency well below your input frequency of 2 MHz. I would suggest a capacitance of 200 pF which will reduce the corner frequency to around 80 KHz. Next you need to reduce the bandwidth of the envelope output to well below its nominal value of 100 MHz. Without this, your envelope output signal will come out with the RF carrier sitting on it (at two times the original carrier frequency). If the envelope bandwidth of the input signal is 10 KHz, you need to set the corner frequency to somewhere between 10 KHz and 2 MHz. I would suggest setting a corner frequency of 100 KHz or lower. This will strip away the carrier while preserving the 10 KHz envelope. You set this corner frequency by adding supply-referenced capacitances to the FLT3 and FLT2 pins (Pins 16 and 1) according to the equations in the datasheet.
